Congressional Aides See Scientists in Action

In October, congressional staffers visited the NIH campus to learn about NIAMS research and tour intramural laboratories with institute scientists. Sponsored by the NIAMS Coalition, a group of professional and voluntary organizations representing arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases, the half-day event hosted senior staff from seven congressional offices and included presentations by NIAMS Director Steve Katz and other institute leaders. The tours featured light imaging and gene sequencing facilities and highlighted examples of research that identified and successfully treated rare pediatric autoinflammatory diseases.
