2010 Drug Facts Chat Day
When: November 9, 2010
Where: Nationwide
Institute: National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
NIDA held its 2010 annual Drug Facts Chat Day on November 9.
During the Chat Day, NIDA scientists answered almost 1,600 questions, reaching a new record. NIDA answered approximately 700 questions in 2007, Chat Day's first year, and about 1,200 questions in 2008 and 2009. Seventy-five schools registered for Chat Day this year, including one school in Rome, Italy.
The most common question topics were marijuana, alcohol, nicotine, and prescription drugs. This year, there were more questions about prescription drugs, indicating that kids are finally beginning to connect non-medical use of prescription drugs with drug abuse. This year also marked the first time representatives from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the National Institute of Mental Health participated in Chat Day.
