New Fact Sheet: Understanding Autoinflammatory Diseases
Format: Fact Sheet
Institute: National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS)
Autoinflammatory diseases are a relatively new category of diseases that are different from autoimmune diseases. However, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases share some characteristics: both groups of disorders result from the immune system attacking the body's own tissues, and both cause increased inflammation.
Understanding Autoinflammatory Diseases, a new fact sheet from NIAMS, contains general information on the immune system and brief descriptions of some of the more common autoinflammatory diseases.
