Learn Why Chronic Wounds Won’t Heal in the Latest Issue of Findings
Institute: National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)
Did you know that there are communities of bacteria living on your skin? Learn more in the January 2012 issue of Findings, a free science education magazine published by NIGMS. This issue features University of Pennsylvania geneticist Elizabeth Grice, who studies skin-dwelling bacteria, many of which help keep us healthy. Her work sheds light on why chronic wounds don't heal and could point to new treatments for various skin diseases. The January 2012 issue also features articles about the inside of a human cell, how schools are using games to teach genetics, and bugs that cause "sleeping sickness."
