Understand the Role of Proteins in Health, Disease, and Drug Design
Format: Fact Sheet
Institute: National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)
Structural biology is a field of science focused on learning more about how biological molecules function by determining their three-dimensional shapes. Structural biologists are particularly interested in proteins because they do so much of the work in the body, including forming hair and fingernails, carrying oxygen in the blood, and enabling muscle movement. You can learn more about the role of protein structure in health, disease, and drug design by reading a new fact sheet from NIGMS.
You can read the fact sheet at www.nigms.nih.gov/Education/Factsheet_StructuralBiology.htm.
