Announcements: Francis Collins

Dr. Collins presented a brief recap of the context and progress to date of the Target Validation Consortium (TVC). TVC was birthed from meetings between R&D and NIH senior leadership to address challenges facing the industry resulting from the limited understanding of targets and pathways. As part of a pilot project, a summary of research plans (Alzheimer’s disease, Type II Diabetes, RA/related disorders, and Schizophrenia/related disorders) developed by technical groups was also shared. A potential timeline for the TVC roll-out and next steps were also discussed.

Smithsonian Genome Exhibit: Eric Green and Vence Bonham

Dr. Green and Mr. Bonham provided overview of the origins of NHGRI-Smithsonian Partnership and announced the jointly sponsored exhibition in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Genomics, opening June 14, 2013.
