Fogarty International Center to Hold Anniversary Meeting for Disease Control Priorities Project

The Fogarty International Center, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will host “The Disease Control Priorities Project: First Year Anniversary Celebration, Implementing the Research Agenda,” a meeting to review key messages of the Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP) and highlight its impact on health policy and programs in developing countries.

The DCPP is an ongoing effort to assess disease control priorities and produce evidence-based analysis and resource materials to inform health policymaking in developing countries. It has produced three volumes providing technical resources to assist developing countries in improving their health systems and, ultimately, the health of their people.

One year ago, the DCPP released two landmark publications: the second edition of “Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP2),” and “Global Burden of Disease and Risk Factors.” The first edition of “Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP1)” led to major advances in the health care system of many countries. Highlights of the impact of these publications will be discussed.
