Second National AIDS Malignancy Conference Takes Place April 6-8

National and international experts will convene at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), April 6-8, 1998, to present recent findings and current studies on AIDS related cancers, including Kaposi's sarcoma, lymphoma, and anal and cervical cancers. The meeting will provide an overview of AIDS-related research on these cancers, which have emerged as an epidemic within the larger AIDS epidemic. It is estimated that about 30 percent to 40 percent of all AIDS patients may eventually develop cancer.

Conference topics include:

Impact of anti-retroviral therapies on the incidence and course of AIDS malignancies
Experimental treatments and prevention strategies
Human papillomavirus (HPV) and the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in patients with HIV
Emerging knowledge of the human herpes virus 8 and its relationship to Kaposi's sarcoma and lymphoma
The advocacy community perspective on AIDS malignancies
