NIH Posts E-biomed Proposal

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today that its Director, Harold Varmus, M.D., has posted on the NIH website a proposal he calls E-biomed, for electronic publications in the biomedical sciences. The proposal includes discussion of prospective benefits, methods to guarantee equity, and plans to launch E-biomed.

Dr. Varmus invites e-mail comments about E-biomed, and the NIH will post the responses for others to read.

Some journals have printed news stories about E-biomed, including Nature (Vol. 398, 29 April 1999, p.725), and Science (Vol 284, #5415, 30 April 1999, p.718).
