Ask Your Health Care Team About Your Type 2 Diabetes – 1

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. Heart disease is the number one cause of death for people with type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Rodgers: In fact, two of three patients with diabetes will suffer and die from a heart attack or a stroke.

Narrator: Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, says because of this and other problems such as blindness, kidney failure, and lower limb amputations, it is important for people with diabetes to set goals to manage their disease. He says, the sooner that people with type 2 diabetes are able to do this, the better their chances are of avoiding or delaying these serious problems. For more information, visit www.nih.gov.
