United States and the Republic of Chile Partner to Battle Cancer – 1

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. Cancer is a leading cause of death in Latin America.

Dr. Gomez: They have a tremendous problem in terms of the prevalence and the incidence of cancer in Latin America.

Narrator: Dr. Jorge Gomez is with the National Cancer Institute:

Dr. Gomez: And I think we haven’t seen the problem in the United States is because the Hispanic population here is a little bit younger so but we’ll see it in the near future. So we need to be prepared for that.

Narrator: A new NCI alliance with the Chilean Ministry of Health aims to accelerate progress against cancer by collaborating in a broad range of mutual research interests.
