Diabetes is a Serious Disease – 4

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. There are more than 800 cases of individuals who die every day, solely because of diabetes. But Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases says, the disease can be managed with medication, and healthy food choices. He adds that exercise can also help.

Rodgers: For example, physical activity and maintaining physical activity 30 minutes a day on most days, or certainly five days a week, is a good place to start because that tends to maintain the blood sugar in more normal range.

Narrator: For more information about diabetes and resources to help learn more about preventing and managing the disease, visit www.YourDiabetesInfo.org. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
