NIH, DoD and VA Holds Conference Examining Impact of Military Service on Families and Caregivers – 4
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. Three government agencies – the NIH, VA and Defense Centers of Excellence – partnered for the Second Annual Trauma Spectrum Disorders Conference: A Scientific Conference on the Impact of Military Service on Families and Caregivers. Dr. Sonja Batten with the Defense Centers of Excellence explains why.
Batten: Because this really isn’t something that’s only relevant if you’re in the military or if you’re in a veteran population. It really is important for community mental health, for community functioning. And what we’re hoping to do is by identifying the ways that stressors can impact our service members and their families, both positively and negatively, that this has implications for America’s public health as well.
Narrator: For details on the conference, visit www.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
