New NIH data show gains in COPD aware – 1
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD kills more than 120,000 adults each year. Yet people go undiagnosed and untreated because they don't recognize its symptoms.
Kiley: It's a serious lung disease that overtime makes it increasingly harder to breathe.
Narrator: Dr. James Kiley is with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
Kiley: People that have COPD, the airways or the tubes that carry air in and out of the lung get partially blocked.
