Top-ranked eating plans from NIH – 1

Narrator:  This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. If you’ve already given up your New Year’s resolution to better manage you weight, it might be time to reconsider.

de Jesus: Weight maintenance is very important.

Narrator: NIH nutritionist Janet de Jesus says weight affects heart disease risk factors: high blood cholesterol and hypertension, or high blood pressure.

de Jesus: It’s important for people to lose weight if their overweight or obese, and hopefully sustain that throughout the year.

Narrator: de Jesus points out that two NIH-supported and research-based eating plans have topped a recent U.S. News & World Report list of best diets. The DASH and TLC eating plans are available for free at www.nhlbi.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
