Heart health during Black History Month and American Heart Month – 3
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Black History Month and American Heart Month this February is a good time to learn how to lower the risk for heart disease.
Rodgers: If you smoke, get help to stop smoking. Smoking is one of the major risk factors associated with heart attack and stroke.
Narrator: Dr. Griffin Rodgers an institute director at the NIH, says this is especially important to people with diabetes or kidney disease.
Rodgers: Aim to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity, most days of the week. Eat foods with less fat, salt and added sugars.
Narrator: For more information on diabetes, kidney disease and weight control, visit www.niddk.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
