Sleep and pregnancy – 3

Narrator:  This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Having trouble getting a good night’s sleep?

Twery: Researchers and physicians have identified over 70 different types of sleep disorders and some of them are very common.

Narrator:  Dr. Michael Twery at the NIH says problems like sleep apnea, insomnia and restless leg syndrome are just a few. He adds some medical treatments can also interfere with sleep.

Twery: This is why we encourage folks to work with their physicians if they feel that they’re not getting enough sleep

Narrator: He emphasizes, a doctor can evaluate if sleep troubles are from a current treatment or if a sleep specialist is needed. For more on sleep disorders, visit www.nhlbi.nih.gov.  Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
