Researchers discover key mutation in acute myeloid leukemia – 3
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Acute myeloid leukemia or AML, is an aggressive blood cancer. Dr. Tim Ley at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis explains, mutations discovered in a single gene, appear responsible for treatment failure in many AML patients.
Ley: And what that usually means is that patients relapse earlier, and when you have relapse to AML, you’re very, very lucky to go on to have a long term survival because the first relapse is usually the beginning of the end for patients with AML.
