Research study finds risk factors for TMJD – 3
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Initial results are in from a study on temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJD. Dr. John Kusiak, a program director at the NIH says about 10 million people in the US have the disorder.
Kusiak: There are a fair number of subjects that not only have just TMJD but also other chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, and it would be really important to try to identify the specific risk factors for those individuals as well.
Narrator: For more information on the study and TMJD, visit www.nidcr.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
