NIH Investigators Find Link Between DNA Damage and Immune Response – 1
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Researchers have found a link between damage to our genes and the body’s immune system. Dr. Michael Resnick, a principal investigator at the National Institutes of Health, says the immune system protects the body from infection.
Resnick: We know that there are a set of genes, a set of proteins, that are part of what is called the innate immune system.
Narrator: Researchers add that the immune system plays a role in inflammatory diseases and cancer. Understanding how genes – or gene damage – affects the immune system may lead to new treatments when inflammation or swelling is involved.
