Dermatitis – 2
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. A rash can be a symptom of many different medical conditions. Things that can cause a rash include diseases, irritating substances, allergies and even genetics.
Katz: A rash is something that is usually a little bit more widespread though it doesn't have to be.
Narrator: Dr. Steven Katz is a director at the NIH.
Katz: When you talk about rashes in skin disease terms, you're talking about an inflamed skin of one type or another. So really you're talking about a dermatitis of some type, and there's a broad spectrum of problems and diseases that can cause rashes.
Narrator: For more information about rashes and skin diseases, visit www.niams.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
