NHLBI’s Heart Truth Campaign – 1

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute’s Heart Truth campaign is one that keeps on giving.

Cook: The Heart Truth campaign is an awareness campaign that was really a landmark opportunity.

Narrator: Dr. Nakela Cook, a cardiologist with NHLBI, says the campaign is an opportunity to get to know your risk factors and change them.

Cook: The traditional risk factors include high blood cholesterol or triglyceride levels, high blood pressure, diabetes or pre-diabetes, having a family history of heart disease, women being over the age of 55, smoking cigarettes is a risk factor for heart disease.
