NHLBI’s Heart Truth Campaign – 2
Narrator: This is Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. If you’re a woman and smoke, have hypertension and high triglyceride levels and are over 55 you should know you’re at a higher risk for heart disease, according to Dr. Nakela Cook, a cardiologist with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Cook: We also know that when people are aware they’re more likely to take action to reduce their risks by doing things such as changing their lifestyle and changing their diet, increasing their exercise - taking steps to understand what the risk factors are and having personal conversations with their doctors.
Narrator: Seven years ago NHLBI started a landmark campaign called Heart Truth, which makes women aware of heart disease. To learn more, visit www.hearttruth.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
