NIH research plan seeks to promote and protect sleep health – 4
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. The NIH has launched a research plan to help prevent and treat sleep disorders. Dr. Michael Twery at the NIH’s National Center on Sleep Disorders Research says one part of the plan is basic sleep research.
Twery: A second area is clinical sleep research. We need to better understand how not getting enough sleep begins to affect our health and our ability to think clearly and how that affects our mood and behaviors. A third area was sleep disorders medicine.
Narrator: He adds another area is taking research and applying it to improve public health. And a fifth part is research training. For plan details, visit www.nhlbi.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
