Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. When developing new drugs or treatments for cancer, the first measure for that therapy is whether or not it works on the target or tumor. Dr. Sandra Mitchell at the NIH’s National Cancer Institute explains it’s also important to know if there are any adverse side-effects.
Mitchell: And then it’s very important to know what are the effects on the individual person of this whole treatment experience. Patient reported outcomes are the ideal way to gather that third aspect of the understanding that we really need.
