May is Healthy Vision Month – 2

Narrator:  This is NIH Health Matters.  I’m Joe Balintfy.  For Healthy Vision Month, experts recommend regular comprehensive dilated eye exams.

Ammary-Risch:  The best thing that people can do to take care of their eyes is to have a comprehensive dilated eye exam.

Narrator:  Neyal Ammary-Risch is the Director of the National Eye Health Education Program at the National Eye Institute.  She says comprehensive dilated eye exams can help make sure the eyes are seeing their best because they can detect problems.

Ammary-Risch:  But also, most importantly, they can detect eye diseases in their early stages, before people notice any vision loss or blindness occurring.

Narrator:  She adds that the earlier an eye disease is detected, the earlier it can be treated. For details, visit www.nei.nih.gov/healthyeyes. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
