New strategic plan for NIH obesity research seeks to curb epidemic – 3

Narrator:  This is NIH Health Matters.  I’m Joe Balintfy.  The National Institutes of Health has launched a new Strategic Plan for NIH Obesity Research. Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health says, the plan recognizes that eating less and exercising more is easier said than done.

Collins: It’s way too simplistic to say, well, people should just eat less and exercise more. That isn’t going to solve the problem. There are many other factors that we are partly aware of, but need to know more about.

Narrator: He adds that heredity plays a role.  To learn more about obesity research and the Strategic Plan for NIH Obesity Research, visit www.obesityresearch.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
