Healthy Vision Month – 1
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. May is Healthy Vision Month and experts are emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
Bishop: To get a true complete eye exam, dilating drops must be used because otherwise there are tissues that are not visible.
Narrator: Dr. Rachel Bishop at the NIH says, to be able to see the hidden tissues inside the eye, the pupil has to be dilated.
Bishop: The pupil has to be open so that we can look in with special lenses to actually see the details of the retina and the nerve.
Narrator: This is more than a vision test. For details about comprehensive dilated eye exams and maintaining healthy vision, visit www.nei.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
