Healthy Vision Month – 4
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Experts are reminding older adults during May which is Healthy Vision Month that four serious eye conditions can cause blindness: cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Chew: More than 50% is due to mac degeneration and that is an aging problem.
Narrator: Dr. Emily Chew at the NIH emphasizes that everyone should get a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
Chew: Having that early exam could catch a lot of things that will be very important to prevent further problems later on in your growing up days.
Narrator: She adds, age is a risk factor for all four of those eye conditions. For more eye health information, visit www.nei.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the NIH, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
