Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. I’m Joe Balintfy. Millions of Americans have undetected vision problems, eye diseases and conditions.
Marshall: African-Americans particularly are at risk for some of those diseases specifically glaucoma and diseases associated with diabetes.
Narrator: Dr. Edwin Marshall is with the National Eye Health Education Program.
Marshall: Glaucoma tends to affect African-Americans starting at around age 40, which is younger than the general population.
