Panel Urges Further Research to Determine which DCIS Patients may be Candidates for Less-Invasive Therapy – 3
Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters. Outcomes for women treated with available therapies for a common non-invasive breast lesion called ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS, are very good. Dr. Carmen Allegra, from the University of Florida, who chaired a recent panel says the primary question for future research should focus on accurately identifying those DCIS patients who may be managed with less intervention.
Dr. Allegra: But at the same time, without sacrificing the excellent outcomes presently achieved.
Narrator: The panel also emphasized the importance of patient preferences, and recommended improved communication between patients and providers.
