Encouraging annual dilated eye exams for people with diabetes – 4

Narrator:  This is NIH Health Matters.  I’m Joe Balintfy.  During National Diabetes Month, experts are emphasizing that dilated eye exams can detect diabetic eye disease early.

Huang:  Treatment options are available and often most beneficial when the disease is detected early.

Balintfy:  Dr. Suber Huang is the chair of the National Eye Health Education Program’s Diabetic Eye Disease Subcommittee.  He says it’s good to catch eye disease early because:

Huang:  Vision lost often can't be restored.
