Young women with menopause-like condition at risk for depression (MP3 - 03:00, 2.8 MB)
Young women with the menopause-like condition, primary ovarian insufficiency, are much more likely than other women to experience depression at some point during their lives, according to a study from the National Institutes of Health. The finding suggests that all women diagnosed with the condition should be evaluated for depression.

Rebooting the Brain Helps Stop the Ring of Tinnitus in Rats (MP3 - 02:53, 2.4 MB)
The hallmark of tinnitus is often a persistent ringing in the ears that is annoying for some, debilitating for others, and currently incurable. Similar to pressing a reset button in the brain, a new therapy has been found to help retrain the part of the brain that interprets sound so that errant neurons reverted back to their original state and the ringing disappeared.

A research team has found a genetic variant that may contribute to violently impulsive behavior. Impulsive behavior, or actions without foresight, is a factor in many pathological behaviors—including suicide, aggression, and addiction—but it is also a trait that can be of value if a quick decision must be made or in situations where risk-taking is favored.
