Overview

The All of Us Research Program Advisory Panel provides external oversight and expert guidance on the program's vision, scientific goals, and community engagement strategies. The All of Us CEO selects panel members for their insights into the different communities and scientific disciplines relevant to the program.

The panel may provide input or feedback on:

• The vision and direction of the All of Us Research Program
• The program's goals and annual objectives and how they relate to the broader precision health ecosystem
• Current projects and programs supported by All of Us

Official recommendations are reported to the NIH Council of Councils, which provides final recommendations to the All of Us CEO and the NIH Director.

The panel periodically evaluates program progress to ensure the vision adapts to the evolving landscape of research, clinical practice, and participant engagement. As needed, the panel may assemble ad hoc work groups, convene conferences, and call upon special consultants.

The program holds periodic open sessions where the All of Us CEO presents program updates and progress. Past session recordings are listed at the bottom of this page.

Reflection and Advancement Working Group

The Reflection and Advancement Working Group assessed the program's progress since its national launch in 2018 and identified opportunities to shape the strategic plan and maximize scientific impact through 2031.

Purpose

The Working Group evaluated the program's achievements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Key questions addressed:

• Charting Progress - Which key indicators best reflect the program's progress? What is All of Us uniquely positioned to achieve?
• Cultivating Trust - How can the program amplify trust among diverse participants and expand their engagement?
• Ensuring Health Equity - What are the best opportunities for All of Us to advance equitable medical practice? How should the program focus future investments as it exceeds 800,000 participants and 10,000 researchers?
• Sustainability - How can All of Us minimize long-term infrastructure costs while improving efficiency?

A summary of key findings was presented at the September 2024 Council of Councils meeting.

Tribal Collaboration Working Group

The Tribal Collaboration Working Group (TCWG), a working group of the All of Us Research Program Advisory Panel, provides guidance on the inclusion of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations in the program.

Purpose and Deliverables

The TCWG identifies strategies for developing meaningful, culturally sensitive collaborations with AI/AN populations and offers input to the Advisory Panel describing collaboration opportunities and potential challenges.

Child Enrollment Scientific Vision Working Group

The Child Enrollment Scientific Vision Working Group (CESVWG) supported the program's efforts to develop the approach for including pediatric populations. The working group identified critical research that All of Us is uniquely positioned to enable through the enrollment of children from diverse backgrounds.

PMI Working Group of the Advisory Committee to the Director

In March 2015, NIH formed the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) Working Group of the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director. On September 17, 2015, the PMI Working Group delivered a detailed report providing a framework for building a national research cohort of one million or more Americans. Having fulfilled its charge, the PMI Working Group is no longer active.

The Working Group was charged with developing a framework for creating and managing a large research cohort to understand the variables that contribute to health and disease, with data and specimens accessible to researchers to develop treatments tailored to individuals.

Community and Participant Advisory Boards (C/PABs)

All of Us awardees establish and maintain local community and/or participant advisory boards (C/PABs). These boards provide a method for receiving local input from All of Us participants and their communities.

Members may be asked to:

• Work with multiple partners, including All of Us participants, community members, and staff
• Provide guidance on methods for recruiting and retaining participants
• Help guide the design of promotional messages, recruitment, and engagement materials
• Share their knowledge and experience
