Microscope image of axons growing across a spinal cord injury
Caption
Researchers developed a way to help axons (red) regrow across a spinal cord injury (gap in green area). A gel placed at the center of the injury (D1) released growth-promoting proteins. Chemical targets for the regenerating neurons to move toward were released by a gel placed at D2.
