A Statement from the NIH Director, Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D. on Dr. Schwartz’s Departure

Portrait of Dr. David Schwartz Dr. David SchwartzLes Todd/Duke University Medical Center

Today, the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colorado, announced that they have hired Dr. David Schwartz to lead their Pulmonary and Critical Care Division and Center for Genetics and Therapeutics. Upon David's acceptance of this new position, I want to recognize his service as Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He is one of the world's leading researchers in pulmonary medicine, and I have the utmost respect for his scientific abilities and his scientific vision for the future of environmental health research. Dr. Schwartz's new position will enable him to further that vision, while providing him more opportunities to conduct research and care for patients. We wish him well in his new position.

Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., Director, NIH
