John T. Burklow
Acting Chief of Staff
John Burklow became Acting Chief of Staff in the Office of the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in April 2021. Mr. Burklow provides strategic counsel to key leaders within the NIH and creates and maintains cross-departmental relationships within the Department of Health and Human Services. He serves as liaison with a number of stakeholders, helps monitor and manage information flow for the Acting NIH Director, and takes on cross-cutting special projects. Before assuming the position of Acting Chief of Staff, John served for many years as NIH’s Associate Director for Communications and Public Liaison and Director of the NIH Office of Communications and Public Liaison. John has held progressive leadership positions in communication at NIH since joining the National Cancer Institute in 1986.
